Sound Barrier

In 2007 New Zealand Geographic ran a major article, The Sound Barrier, about New Zealand music—those who compose it and those who play it. A double CD featuring significant works by 28 leading composers was produced in association with SOUNZ, the centre for New Zealand Music, and this was distributed with the article. Composers featuring on the CD include Douglas Lilburn, Gillian Whitehead, Jack Body, Jenny McLeod, John Psathas, Helen Bowater, Ross Harris, Gillian Whitehead, Lyell Cresswell, Eve de Castro-Robinson, John Rimmer, Chris Cree Brown and many others. Their music is played by musicians of the highest calibre—local and international—including NZSO, Auckland Philharmonia, NZSQ, Kronos Quartet, and others. This double CD provides the most comprehensive sampler of New Zealand composition to date.

The set (Issue 83 and the Sound Barrier CD) is now available to schools, teachers and students in New Zealand for a very special 'below cost' education price. To get your copy, please call our freephone number 0800 SUB GEO (0800 782 436) and tell us your address details and which school/educational institution you attend or teach at. It's that simple.

For just $5 we'll send you the magazine (issue 83) plus the Sound Barrier CD. This price even includes postage and handling.
