Three main categories showcase the extraordinary natural and cultural riches that make New Zealand unique. The New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year, , will be picked from these entrants, as will the Young Photographer award, (for entrants under the age of 21 on Sept 30, 2010). All photos must have been shot after Sept 30, 2007, and within New Zealand territory—including New Zealand-administered Pacific and Antarctic dependencies.
Capture an animal or groups of animals in their natural environment. We are looking for images which exude life and show the behaviour or adaptations which make it unique.
Showcase the wonders of New Zealand, its mountains, wetlands, coasts and plains. The judges will be looking for attention to light and drama.
This category celebrates the traditions and relationships of all New Zealanders. The winning entry will be an image that captures our identity as a people.
The winner of each category receives $1000 cash, publication in New Zealand Geographic, 10 New Zealand Geographic 2011 calendars, a one year subscription to New Zealand Geographic and a large format print of their winning image. The winner of the Young Photographer category will also receive $1000, a large format photographic print and automatic access into the New Zealand Geographic Trust Young Guns mentoring scheme. The overall winner earns the title New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year 2010, an additional $2000 cash and a guaranteed Creative Contributor contract offer from Getty Images.
