New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year
Q: How many times can I enter?
A: You may enter only once. But under one entry you may submit up to five images over the three categories of Landscape, Wildlife and Culture. In addition (or instead) you may submit a set of four to six images in the Photostory category.
Q: Can I change out the images I have already uploaded for different images?
A: No, once you've entered, your submission is complete. Please choose carefully.
Q: Can I enter from outside New Zealand?
A: Yes, but photos must have been taken in New Zealand or it's territories.
Q: Are spot exposure adjustments allowed in RAW conversions? eg. neutral density gradient to a sky, lightning or darkening specific areas, contrast (curves) masks in a layered Photoshop file?
A: The competition is to reward editorial photography, which attempts to represent reality. So nothing can be added or deleted from the frame and we'd prefer that corrections were applied across the whole image, rather than one section of it for the same reason. It's a photography competition, not a Photoshop competition, and this is where editorial photography is on a divergent course from commercial and fashion photography—we're representing what is really there, not trying to fabricate a new world to our taste. So the moment you have to dodge subjects, or work in layers you're departing from reality rather than representing it, and that won't be rewarded by the judges.
